Yale Locks & Hardware: A Testament To Northeast U.S. Craftsmanship
Jersey Architectural is proud to carry well-known, American-made commercial door hardware brands, like our full array of locks and other hardware from the Connecticut-based Yale Lock Manufacturing Co.
The company was founded in Stamford, Connecticut in 1868 by Linus Yale, Jr. Yale would soon after gain great fame and fortune as the inventor of the modern pin tumbler lock. This unique lock uses pins of varying lengths to prevent opening without the correct key. Inspired by the original 1840s pin-tumbler lock designed by his father, Yale Jr. sought out to improve it. His patented design has become commonplace within cylinder locks in doors across the world today.
Yale grew as American industry grew, and in the 20th Century the company had expanded worldwide, employing more than 12,000 people. The company is semi-famous for supplying all the locks for Rolls-Royce cars until 1991. In 2000, major Swedish lock manufacture Assa Abloy acquired Yale.
It prides itself as “the world’s favorite lock”, considering Yale Locks & Hardware protect millions of homes and businesses worldwide and have had a major influence on lock brand design. On its website, Yale says its “overall aim is to make [its] customers feel so safe and secure that they are free to enjoy their life fully, free of worries and free to choose what they want to do.”
