Merrill “Bud” Dame founded Woodgrain in 1954 in Utah as the Dame Moulding and Lumber Company. It moved its offices to Fruitland, ID in 1969, where it has become a multi-generational family-run business. After Bud’s retirement, his sons took over management and production, and have continued to grow WoodGrain into a highly successful company and one of the largest millwork operations in the world today.
WoodGrain Branches Out
The WoodGrain group of companies acquired Windsor Windows & Doors in 1987. Headquartered in West Des Moines, Iowa, Windsor builds wood, vinyl, cellular vinyl and hybrid door and window products at its two manufacturing facilities in IA and NC with 340,000 square feet of production space between the two. In 2000, WoodGrain acquired Ashworth Doors, formerly known as Atrium Patio Door. Then in 2007 WoodGrain acquired Monarch Windows & Doors, a wood window and door manufacturer based in Anniston, Ala.

- LifeTech®– WoodGrain Millwork’s LifeTech components are manufactured by fingerjointing a revolutionary new building product – Accoya® – to the bottom of frames and moulding. The technology behind this is based on wood acetylation, a non-toxic, environmentally friendly process that improves the performance of moulding and frames without compromising their strength. WoodGrain makes its LifeTech products with double pass priming and sanding, and include a limited lifetime warranty against rot. They exhibit exceptional physical properties with field-tested resistance to UV rays, wear, splitting and impact. All products made in the USA.
- LifePlast®– These poly-fiber frames and mouldings guarantee a long-lasting, rot-free entryway that will never have to be replaced. Woodgrain’s innovative poly-fiber material machines like wood, looks like wood but requires much less maintenance.
